The research team of the Grupo de Investigación de Sistemas Digitales is composed by faculties of the Electronics and Communications Departments of Polytechnic University of Valencia.

Faculty

Javier Valls

He received the degree in telecommunication engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya, Spain, in 1993, and the Ph.D. degree in telecommunication engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain, in 1999. Since 1993, he has been with the Department of Electronics, Universitat Politècnica de València, where he is currently a Professor. His current research interests include the design of FPGA-based systems, computer arithmetic, VLSI signal processing, and digital communications.

Vicenç Almenar

He received the telecomunications engineering and the Ph.D. degrees from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) in 1993 and 1999, respectively. In 2000, he did a postdoctoral research stay at the Centre for Communications Systems Research (CCSR), University of Surrey, U.K., where he was involved in research on digital signal processing for OFDM systems. He joined the Communications Department, UPV in 1993, became Associate Professor in 2002 and a Professor in 2017. He was the Deputy Director of the department from 2004 to 2014. His current research interests include OFDM, MIMO and signal processing techniques for wireless and optical communications systems.

Asunción Pérez-Pascual

She received the telecommunication engineering and Ph.D. (telecommunication engineering) degrees from the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain, in 1997 and 2002, respectively. She has been an Associate Professor with the Department of Electronics, Universitat Politècnica de València since 2002. Her current research interests include the design of FPGA-based systems, computer arithmetic, VLSI signal processing, and digital communications.

Maria José Canet

She received the degree in telecommunication engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain, in 2001 and 2007, respectively. Since 2005, she has been with the Department of Electronics, Universitat Politècnica de València, where she is currently a Lecturer. Her current research interests include the design of FPGA-based systems, computer arithmetic, VLSI signal processing, and digital communications.

Vicente Torres

He graduated in telecommunications engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV), Spain, in 1994. He received the Ph.D. degree from UPV in 2001. He is currently an Associate Professor with UPV. He is also a member with the Institute for Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications. He has contributed to more than 50 papers in renowned technical journals and conferences. His research work is focused on digital signal processing in electronic devices. He has been an active member of several financiallyaided research projects.

Collaborators

Beatriz Ortega Tamarit

Currently working at the Departamento de Comunicaciones from the Universitat Politècnica de València and collaborating as a group leader in the Photonics Research Labs in the Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications. She has published more than 200 papers and conference contributions in fibre Bragg gratings, microwave photonics and optical networks. She has got several patents and is also a co-founder of EPHOOX company. She has participated in a large number of European Networks of Excellence and R&D projects and other national ones. Her main research is currently focused on optical devices, optical networks and microwave photonic systems and applications.

José Mora Almerich

Since 2004, he joined as a researcher in the Institute of Telecomunications and Multimedia (ITEAM) from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). Currently, he is collaborating as a group leader in the Photonics Research Labs. With an H-factor of 18, he has published more than 150 papers and conference contributions covering a wide range of fields related to microwave photonics, fibre bragg gratings for sensing applications, reconfigurable and convergent optical for wired/wireless networks and quantum cryptography. He was the lead entrepreneur and founder of EPhoox Technology SL company in 2016.

Researchers

Francisco García Herrero

He received the B.S. degree in telecommunication engineering from the Escuela Politecnica Superior de Gandia, Spain, in 2008, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain, in 2010 and 2013, respectively. He has worked as a Lecturer and a Researcher at several universities, including the European University Miguel de Cervantes and the Universitat Politècnica de València. He is currently an Associate Professor and a Researcher with the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija. His research interests include hardware and algorithmic optimization of error-control decoders and fault-tolerance electronics in communication and storage systems.

Julián Bruno

He received the Electronics Engineering degree from the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN), Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2007,  the M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Electronics Systems Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Valencia, Spain, in 2013 and 2019, respectively. He currently holds a post-doctoral position with the Digital Communication Laboratory, UPV. Since 2009, he has been an Assistant Professor with the Electronics Engineering Department, UTN. His research interests include digital signal processing and the design of FPGA architectures for digital communications, especially on OFDM systems.
